These pictures are taken throughout the second day of the great 24th annual Ojai CA Mardi Gras. It takes place on March 2nd, 2014 on a drizzly Sunday morning that progresses into a beautiful afternoon. We start out with some of our makeup still intact from the night before and head down with a ukelele, flyers, and a bunch of beads to the weekly Farmers Market.
We hung out on a bench with some regular buskers and promoted. Always fun to light kids up with a gift 🙂
Made a little walk about and as always lots of beautiful sights and great sounds there.
Time to head down the block and a half back to the Art Center where the band’s already started and the dancing’s begun
With festivities well under way, our Captain Chris revs up the Big Tuna Fish art car, loads up anyone who wants to come aboard and off we roll through the side streets and down the main drag of Ojai, unannounced and tossing beads as we go. The Krewe of Fools had a bag to start with and then I dragged out our whole giant tub of gulf coast Mardi Gras treasures, years worth of collecting and gave them to the cause. You’ll see the kids on the “fish float” having a blast digging through them and heaving them over the sides. Probably my favorite part was the kid who brought along a trumpet and an older guy named John who brought a wooden flute and together they played “When the Saints Go Marching In”. It was so perfect!
When the fish came home we played some more then helped with the clean up and break down. There are amazing Mardi Gras celebrations around the world. So happy to have stumbled upon this one.
